Lucence Diagnostics was founded by Dr. Tan Min-Han to provide a simpler way to detect cancer. He wants to solve the most complex diagnostic problems in medicine through the most innovative technology design possible. A world leader in medicine, Dr. Tan’s research has spanned diverse fields of clinical medicine, human genetics and medical data analytics to regularly rewrite orthodoxy. He is recognized internationally for his landmark discovery of the circulating tumor-endothelial cell clusters in the blood of cancer patients, which overturned a 50-year scientific dogma and led to a new way of looking at cancer.

Dr. Tan Min-Han is the founder, CEO and medical director of Lucence Diagnostics. Trained as a medical oncologist and clinical cancer geneticist, he divides time between the bedside and the laboratory, believing that major advances in care occur only through an intimate real-world understanding of human health. He is recognized internationally for discovering the circulating tumor-endothelial cell cluster in the blood of cancer patients. He also created the first patient-specific stem cell model for liver toxicity, and developed predictive data models introduced into routine clinical care in oncology and human genetics. Beyond the laboratory, he has overseen breast cancer screening studies involving over 160,000 individuals followed up over 20 years.

For his track record of disruptive innovation in research and clinical medicine, Min-Han has received international awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology, European Society of Medical Oncology and Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Yukti is the Chief Technology Officer of Lucence Diagnostics. A molecular biologist by training, Yukti co-founded Lucence after a glittering career at Singapore’s Agency of Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). Her research motivation is the rational development of innovations in cancer diagnostics and therapeutics. In past contributions, she has discovered new treatment targets in brain and kidney cancer, highlighted in the field as fundamental breakthroughs, and she created the first patient-specific stem cell model for modelling drug-induced liver toxicity in the world. Her excellence has been recognized through awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology and she has been recognized as a promising Young Investigator by the Kidney Cancer Association.

Trained as a microbiologist, Pan has invested over ten years empowering physicians and laboratories in diagnostics and precision medicine across three continents. Joining Lucence Diagnostics as co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer, Pan has past deep experience in leading sales and marketing  operations for multinational diagnostics companies across the United States, Europe, China and Southeast Asia. At Lucence, she aims to improve delivery and accessibility of its services for patients and physicians, so as to improve health for the community.

With over 10 years of experience in accounting, assurance and taxation, Kevin oversees the financial planning and infrastructure of Lucence with a steady hand. His auditing background with KPMG has allowed a keen understanding of company growth, compliance needs and project management. In a previous role as the Financial Controller of a listed healthcare company, he also developed deep additional skills in complex operations and workflow management. His talents extend outside finance, and he is widely known also as Singapore’s 6-time national chess champion, a regular member of the Singapore national chess team and a globally recognised chess writer.

Wai Min drives assay development and quality as the Director of Assays Development at Lucence Diagnostics, with a deep understanding of both laboratory and clinical medicine. Trained across the disciplines of medicine and engineering, Wai Min is a physician and experienced technology creator with a track record of successful licensing to industry. In his previous work at Singapore’s Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, he developed key PCR-based diagnostics deployed in real-world clinical service and cancer screening, while setting up and overseeing the growth of a major biobank.

Jess oversees key projects of Lucence as Director of Operations. Skilled across several fields, Jess brings a background of glowing scientific and industrial achievement in cancer diagnostics. At Singapore’s Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, she has led and published key scientific studies in cancer diagnostics and liquid biopsies. She has also been key in the the successful licensing of patents, enabled with her experience in intellectual property management. Jess continues to successfully navigate Team Lucence’s growth and operations with an able hand, through her profound understanding of the team dynamic.

Jamen builds and manages the marketing structure within Lucence including the creation and dissemination into the multiple channels across print, web and social media. Since his graduation from National University of Singapore, Jamen’s foray into entrepreneurship spanned industries including medical logistics, online travel, progressive education and events planning. Starting up and managing SMEs provided Jamen a depth of experience managing and streamlining business operations that ensures long term business viability and profitability.

Chen Hao is the Informatics Director at Lucence Diagnostics, creating the core algorithms powering our complex analytics yielding the best possible diagnostics for our patients. He has an accomplished past record of creating world-class highly innovative software platforms for analyzing biological and cellular diversity at Singapore’s Agency of Science, Technology and Research. Regularly ranked among the top downloads on Bioconductor (the primary open-source biological software repository in the world), his algorithms provide insights in high-dimensional and high-throughput single-cell complex data analysis. His work has been published in top peer-reviewed journals, and he has filed patents on technology allowing for automated and reproducible analysis of complex data.

Benson is the Legal Director at Lucence Diagnostics. He fixes problems. He is best at getting a positive result out of cross-border issues and running a coordinated strategy over multiple fronts to achieve Lucence’s vision. Through the lens of a holistic business adviser, he supports and guides Lucence’s business teams through international transactions.

Elena has more than 16 years of corporate communications experience in the public and private sectors. She brings significant experience dealing with the medical technology and research sectors to Lucence. Most recently, she was the head of corporate communications at the A*STAR Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology. In that role, she was responsible for external and internal communications for over 150 scientists. She has also held positions in the private sector with Ogilvy Public Relations, GolinHarris, Asurion and Pacific Internet. Elena holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Language and Sociology from the National University of Singapore.

Farah joined Lucence in 2016 to advance its innovative diagnostics technology program as a key laboratory scientist. Graduating with first-class honors in biological sciences from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, ranked 11th in the world, her work has spanned liquid biopsy technology, and research in brain cancer treatment at the National Neuroscience Institute. Farah has won numerous awards in her early scientific career for her exciting research, including the awards as the Promising Young Researcher from the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, and from the National Neuroscience Institute Academic Clinical Program.

Yong Herng is an experienced medical technologist, with the responsibility of overseeing laboratory management at Lucence. He has been key to Lucence’s major early milestone in achieving national licensing as a clinical laboratory, and has driven our ISO 15189 accreditation process. In past work at the Singapore General Hospital, the largest hospital in Singapore, he was a key operator for the External Quality Assurance Programme and Safety Programme for its biochemistry laboratory. With a background as a combat medic for Singapore’s elite Naval Diving Unit, Yong Herng is skilled in working with highly focused teams to solve complex operations.

Ru Jin is a cancer genetics counselor at Lucence Genetics Clinic, offering education, counseling and comfort to cancer patients and their families. She supports the Gleneagles outpatient cancer clinic led by Dr. Tan Min-Han, aiming always for holistic care of patients in the multi-ethnic community of Southeast Asia. Her experience, personality and technical training allows Lucence to care for patients directly through the highest quality answers.

Jun Hao is a Bioinformatician at Lucence Diagnostics. Jun Hao completed his Masters in Bioinformatics at the Nanyang Technological University, with a background in molecular biology. Across a decade-long career in life science, Jun Hao has been involved in key positions in bioinformatics and molecular biology. In particular, he contributed to the comprehensive analysis of the Zika genome during the Singapore outbreak in 2016. At Lucence, he will focus on algorithm development and the interpretation of complex biological data to deliver the best possible diagnostics analysis to patients.

Lay Kheng oversees clinic operations at Lucence Diagnostics at Gleneagles Hospital, guiding patients with care throughout. With her skilled background in nursing and specialty experience in caring for patients with genetic disorders of the eye and cancer, she solves real world issues hand-in-hand with patients, efficiently bridging technology and humanity.

Melvin is a Senior Medical Technologist at Lucence Diagnostics. He has contributed significantly to the numerous cohort study publications on endocrinology, focusing on Type 2 Diabetes and obesity. Being at the forefront of clinical research, he has extensive experience in analytical methods for proteomic biomarker studies. With the promise of personalized medicine, he is well equipped with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) skillsets to help Lucence decipher, identify and detect the complex genetic disease that is cancer.

Energetic and approachable, Hilda is our Account Manager, whose mission is to manage our customers’ needs. She graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Biomedical Sciences. Her front-line experience across both healthcare and biomedical sectors have endowed her with a deep knowledge and understanding of how best to deliver value to patients and physicians.

Kelly joins Lucence as a clinical genomic scientist, having been trained as a genomicist at Queensland Center of Medical Genomics, a node of The International Cancer Genome Consortium. Before joining Lucence, Kelly pursued her postdoctoral research in the lab of Translational Lung Cancer Genomics and Immunogenomics at UT MD Anderson Cancer Centre. Daniel did his postgraduate study in University Malaya after the completion of his undergraduate education in the same university, majoring in Genetics and Molecular Biology. During his postgraduate candidature, he focused on the study of quorum sensing, a form of bacterial communication for the regulation of gene expression in response to the fluctuation of bacterial population density, in an uncommonly studied bacterium, Cedecea neteri. Being highly interested in the application of next-generation sequencing for the research as well as the improvement of healthcare, he came to Lucence Diagnostics.

Kim Tien was the recipient of several international Young Scientist Awards, whose hallmark studies include the identification and characterization of the novel HIV-1 recombinants and the investigation of HIV-1 transmission networks in Southeast Asia. He worked on respiratory viruses such as rhinovirus (RV) and further highlighted that RV-C infection yielding higher viral load, is associated with severe respiratory symptoms. Having filed a patent for the newly designed RV quantification assay, Kim Tien was also involved in designing the viral and bacterial peptide libraries with potential for useful application in active surveillance and improved national readiness in combating disease outbreaks.

Michelle is a Senior Medical Technologist at Lucence Diagnostics. With her Hospital background and extensive experience in a Contract Research Organisation, Michelle is equipped with knowledge in both Automation and Genomics testing, with a focus on Companion Diagnostics. At Lucence, Michelle’s expertise contributes significantly to the growing needs of physicians for accurate and quality results. Apart from her laboratory work, Michelle can be found spending quality time with her young daughter and two lovely guinea pigs.

Yi Liang works as Full Stack Engineer at Lucence Diagnostics, looking at building the system that makes workflow automation, including implementation and integration of multiple information services possible. Before joining Lucence, Yi Liang was a
researcher in Nanyang Technological University with a focus on natural language processing to build next-generation search engines such as ontology search.

Always keeping an opening mind to the new technologies at work, such as AR, Smart Home, Blockchain etc, Yi Liang believes that the responsibility of technology is to make life better. “Leave the repetitive and tedious job to the machines, humans are meant to take on valuable and creative jobs so that the world is a more meaningful place to live.”

With her Hospital background and extensive experience in a Contract Research Organisation, Michelle is equipped with knowledge in both Automation and Genomics testing, with a focus on Companion Diagnostics. At Lucence, Michelle’s expertise contributes significantly to the growing needs of physicians for accurate and quality results. Apart from her laboratory work, Michelle can be found spending quality time with her young daughter and two lovely guinea pigs.
